The first time it happens, my phone chimes while I’m sitting at the dining room table processing email one afternoon before dinner.
“Hey, how are you,” he says.
“I’m well, all good?” I ask him. He doesn’t usually just ring me up.
“Yeah, fine,” he responds. “I had something short to tell you.”
No idea what’s coming. I sit very still.
